The Sparrow to the Crow
You came to us three months ago
Wanting a change
And we took you in.
You were tired of eating scraps
And we fed you seeds.
Your voice was too sweet
For your raucous calls
And we taught you our songs.
But every night you sat
On the branch that we gave you
Looking through the stars
At your old home.
Every night you sat
While others flew about you
'Til one day you said
Thank you
And goodbye.
We watched you as you flew
With a sparrow's simple grace
Back to your old crows' home.
You sat alone,
Cloaked in a crow's thoughts,
Brooding a crow's memories.
But if you ever part with these,
Know that you'll always have
A sparrow's home.
